Curses: Creation, and It Had Been Good

via TJC

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.””

Genesis 3:15-19

God had declared the entire creation “Good”. Because of Adam’s sin, God cursed the Earth and everything was and is still broken. Adam’s sin specifically extends beyond his own body, existence and experience. The result of the curse against Adam extends to the animals, woman, man, and the Earth. Everything that God said was "Good" is now cursed.

Kingdom Man, has anything “good” ever been destroyed because of you? For me, the sin of pride and self-righteousness has broken some good relationships. My sin caused the other person to withdraw their invitation of friendship and intimacy in order to protect the other good things in their life. For them, what I was bringing to the relationship was toxic. It was like a cancer that needed to be removed. Though it hurt (both of us), and at the time I thought they were overreacting (again pride), it was the right decision. For me it caused thorns to grow in my witness. It made it hard for people to trust me and they questioned my credibility. In TJC speak, my victory would come with much more toil because the bad fruit I was yielding had to be cut away. It didn’t look or feel like Jesus’ good ripe fruit. It was grafted into another vine and came out ruined.

Daily Battle Order: Kingdom Man, spend some time today thinking about what has been destroyed because of your sin.  What was the impact? What did you learn?

Take that to the Father and trusted men. Confess it if you haven’t already. We’ll talk about it more next week, but He is faithful to restore and deliver you from any guilt or shame that you feel or are carrying.

Father, we live in a world that was broken because of Man’s sin. We inherited their sinful nature and we toil harder and wrestle between what is and what should be. That sin has caused us to be ugly to one another and ever prideful towards You. Lord renew our minds. Let us know you have saved us for something more holy and better than the things that we sometimes think you are keeping from us. Remind us of the victory that You have delivered from the curses we put on each other and the trappings of the enemy. Give us wisdom and increase our fruit. For we know that all things come together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
