Applying The Truth: Unchanging

via TJC

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” —Hebrews 13:7-8 NIV

We’ve been learning this week about the Truth of God’s Word. Today, we focus on the fact that the Truth of God’s Word is unchanging, unlike the hearts and minds of men.

When you go about your discipleship commission in Matt. 28:19, make no mistake, there will be unexpected changes. I can think of two examples immediately:

1.) I was discipling one of my best friends who was a little behind me in his walk with Christ. I thought we would be two peas in a pod. Before long, he got into a predatory business deal and a bad relationship. He was not fulfilling the standards of discipleship. I had to do one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do: kick out my own best friend of our discipleship group.

2.) I was praying for my next discipleship endeavor, when I kept hearing the names of two men I didn’t want to hear. I thought I was destined to disciple some other guys. I thought those two men weren’t ready anyways. But the LORD kept pushing their names to me... Now, I am six weeks through the Every Man A Warrior journey with those two men, and they are growing like wildfires!

While the hearts of men change often, God’s compassionate, gracious, patient, and loving heart does not.

Daily Battle Order:

What is something you weren’t expecting in your discipleship efforts? How much did it attack your faith in Jesus? How much did it change who Jesus is? (See answer below.)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Heb. 13:8)
