Why be a man of the Word? That is the challenge to answer as we have finished our walk through the Bible. Several years ago when I was first challenged on the idea of being a man of the Word, I honestly thought I already was one. Years of church and different men’s ministries left me with head knowledge of some key stories and even some specific verses I could mostly bring up from memory. The men who challenged me to rethink, and be honest with myself about my real relationship with God’s word wouldn’t let me off the hook with this casual relationship to Scripture. They led me to a place of deep awe of and desire for knowing ALL God had to say to me personally through ALL 66 books of the Bible. Has God led you in this same direction? Maybe these Battle Orders have helped—we certainly hope so.
Since the focus is on the Word, let's end with the Word.
”All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.“
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
”Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.“
Joshua 1:8 NLT
”For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.“
Hebrews 4:12 KJV
”Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. That your trust may be in the Lord, I have made them known to you today, even to you.“
Proverbs 22:17-19 ESV
Daily Battle Order
You might be like me, with a long term but shallow relationship with God's Word. For others, you may not have grown up around the Bible, and this past year may have been very new to you. Our prayer is no matter how many of the Daily Battle Orders you read this past year, they brought you closer to seeing ALL of God’s word has purpose and practical application for YOU. We pray you will continue to spend time in Scripture on your own in the coming days, months, and years - beyond what we send in future Daily Battle Orders.
If you don’t already have a plan, or even the skills, to get into the Word on your own, reach out to us (to whoever is sending you these Battle Orders). TJC is about building Kingdom Men - men of the Word.
